Setting the Standard

Last year's inaugural class of National Honor Society students at Arts and Tech set the standard for excellence in scholarship, service, leadership and character.  As the first group of members to graduate, they defined the Society's presence at our school, imbuing it with life, dedication, compassion, and joy.  I will always be grateful for the partnership we forged through the effort of creating this chapter.

The final 15 lifetime NHS members of the class of 2008 distinguished themselves in many ways.  In addition to their average cumulative GPA of 93.6, most were awarded significant college scholarships, and nine among them received Advanced Regents Diplomas at graduation.  Their service projects included developing a peer tutoring program and directing Spirit Week, both of which were launched in collaboration with their friends in Honors English.

We applaud each and every one of the students that was involved in the NHS and we honor their commitment to our school and to themselves.  May their legacy inspire active and future members to take up that commitment.  Wishing you all the best at Syracuse University, Pace University, Trinity College, Baruch College, and the University of Pennsylvania (to name a few) and beyond!

 Meaning and Purpose

The prestigious National Honor Society, founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, was established to recognize outstanding young men and women and encourage their academic and personal success.  According to its constitution, the NHS aspires "to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools."

The Arts and Technology Chapter of the National Honor Society bears the same mission:

1. Celebrate academic and personal excellence

2. Cultivate local and global citizenship through service projects that give back to the community

3. Foster leadership and character in the young men and women of our school
